About the Series
In the English-speaking world, Latin Americans are more often written about than read. As a result, the educated public in the United States continues to learn most of what it does know about the region from Latin Americanists who are themselves foreigners to the national realities they study.
The Consortium in Latin American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University has been involved in an effort to right this imbalance through its ongoing editorial project entitled Latin America in Translation/En Traducción/Em Tradução.
Latin America in Translation is a joint initiative of the Carolina and Duke Consortium, the Duke University Press (DUP), and the University of North Carolina Press (UNCP), and is directed by an editorial committee of faculty members and editors from the two universities and their presses. Since 1993, twenty-five books have been published in the series with nine more scheduled to appear in the next two to three years.

Information for Translators
The Carolina and Duke Consortium does not nominate translators for the publications selected for the series. Translators are chosen by the individual Press that will publish the title in question. Nomination Guidelines: Nominations not currently being accepted.
If you would like to submit a title for consideration in the series, you must provide the following:
1. A complete copy of the book. If a printed copy is unavailable, a photocopy will be accepted. If requested, all copies will be returned upon completion of the selection process.
2. A statement of the book's importance within Latin America and for an English language audience. The statement should summarize the nature of the book or its argument while providing relevant information about the author's biography and/or the work's critical reception. The proposal itself can be in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese and should not exceed two pages in length.
3.
(Optional) Published editorial reviews of the book. If including newspaper or magazine reviews please include the complete reference for the source.
