The Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University owns a video collection of more than 500 feature films and documentaries. Most of these films were produced in Latin America and the majority have English subtitles. The collection includes classics of Latin American cinema as well as many recent titles, representing almost all of the countries of the region. Indigenous documentaries and short fiction productions, as well as Chicano/a and Latino/a productions, are also a part of the collection. The collection continues to include work suitable for k-12 audiences.
The videos are purchased for use in the Consortium's annual Film Festival, as well as providing educational tools for students, teachers, and other professionals. We encourage faculty, graduate students, public school instructors, and community educators to make use of these valuable resources in the classroom. The video collection is housed at the Consortium's office on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. All videos are lent free of charge, and may be signed out from and returned to the UNC-Chapel Hill office.
