The Center for French and Francophone Studies fosters interdisciplinary French studies across Duke's campus by drawing on the excellence of the Duke faculty and students. Designated an official Centre Pluridisciplinaire by the Cultural Services division of the French Embassy, the center is an umbrella, a catalyst, and an organizing force designed to consolidate and intensify intellectual energies across the campus and throughout the region. The Center sponsors and co-sponsors a variety of cross-disciplinary activities, including colloquia and workshops; visits by distinguished writers, scholars, joumalists, theater troupes, and researchers; screenings of the best new French films; and virtual and actual intellectual collaborations and exchanges.

New Programs:

Student Exchange with Université Lille-3 Visiting artist from Le Fresnoy - Studio National d'Art Contemporain
This program, funded in part by the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE) Council and by the Région Nord-Pas-de-Calais, will allow graduate students in the History of Art from both Duke and Lille-3 to study for a year in each other's institution and participate in the Art Markets research project already in full swing.

A student-artist from world-renowned art school Le Fresnoy will come to Duke for one semester each ear to teach a course and participate in various projects. This project is funded in part by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
