Mentorship
We seek to keep the older children as
involved as possible in Duke China Care,
but find that the younger children tend to enjoy the playgroups more.
Therefore we welcome children age nine and above to join our mentorship
program. The mentorship program pairs each child with their own Duke
mentor
based on shared interests. We offer group mentorship events in order
for the
older children to spend time together, but more importantly the
child-student
pair will plan their own activities to enjoy together. This is a great
chance
for the older children and teens to interact and learn from each other
and
their mentors while having lots of fun!
Our mentorship program was founded in the spring of 2008. We
kick-started the
program by taking a trip to Ben & Jerry's on Ninth Street. Mentors
and mentees
had a great time getting to know each other while sharing in fun games.
We
continue to offer group events each semester. See the schedule of
events below
for our upcoming group mentorship events (pictures!).
If you are a Duke student interested in becoming a mentor, or a parent
interested in signing your child up for this program, please contact
