Auditions for 2010-2011 - August 29-September 3, 2010

All graduate and undergraduate students who love singing are encouraged to audition for the Chorale. Auditions are normally scheduled during the first week of classes each fall, either in the morning or the afternoon. Once you arrive on campus, just call the Chorale's director, Rodney Wynkoop's, office at (919) 684-3898 to arrange a time.

At your audition, you'll start by singing some scales and/or arpeggios, which will be played for you first. After that, you should sing a piece that you already know, whether it be the soprano or alto part of some choral piece you've done, a Broadway tune, a hymn, anything you are comfortable with. The style doesn't really matter; the point is to hear you as relaxed as you can possibly be in the audition situation. Please bring the music with you; an accompanist will be at the audition, or you can sing unaccompanied if you prefer.

Following the prepared piece (which may need to be shortened, in order to stay on schedule), you'll be given some sight-reading. The accompanist will play your voice part (and other voice parts), after which you'll be asked to join in. Perfect sightreading isn't the point; you'll be offered some coaching to help you learn it better, since the music will probably be unfamiliar.

We look forward to meeting you!
