ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT DUKE – TUTORS AND TUTEES WANTED

Dear the International House community,

I would like to make an announcement about a new academic assistance program within the Duke Asian community. The goal of the program is to provide assistance for Asian international students who may need help with their writing assignments. The act of writing a paper is often a difficult and tedious process for them because of their troubles with English grammar, and their unfamiliarity with the American writing style. The international students often have great ideas, but these problems hinder the expression of those ideas effectively on paper. The program will pair international students, who are seeking help, with Asian American students who are familiar with English grammar, and insights on how to construct a college level paper.

The purpose of this email is gauge the interest level for this program. Please email hz6@duke.edu if you think you will be interested in using this program in the future, or in becoming a tutor. The program will be monitored according to the Duke Honor Code. Based on the interest level, it could be implemented as early as the beginning of the spring semester.
