ParksWatch: ParksWatch was formed to be a watchdog group for tropical biodiversity and especially for paper parks. Their focus is on protecting areas already officially set aside as areas with no resource extraction, and no activities besides tourism. Parkswatch works on a country-by-country basis, in partnership with local citizens in conservation NGOs. Like other watchdog organizations, they monitor, report, and try to leverage action locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Wildlands Project: The Wildlands Project is a nonprofit organization based in Tucson, Arizona. It is a group of conservation biologists and citizen conservationists from across the continent devoted to developing a North American wilderness recovery strategy. TWP works in cooperation with independent grassroots organizations throughout the continent to develop proposals for each bioregion.

Cocha Cashu Biological Station, Manu Biosphere Reserve, Peru:
Located in the remote Peruvian Amazon, Cocha Cashu has hosted researchers from all over the world in a variety of fields. Dr. John Terborgh, James B. Duke Professor of Environmental Sciences at Duke University, has operated the station (under the auspices of the Peruvian government) for more than 20 years, and has personally conducted research on such diverse ecological topics as primates, birds, jaguars and forest composition. Investigators from a variety of disciplines have produced an impressive body of work, resulting in over 300 publications!
