Biography of Keith A. Thompson
Assistant Professor on the MFA faculty at Temple University, Keith Thompson is an exceptional educator and, as a performer and choreographer, an exceptional role model. He has worked with Dan Wagoner & Dancers, Jacob’s Pillow Men Dancers, and Creach/Koester Company, and danced internationally with the Trisha Brown Company from 1992-2001, serving as Trisha’s Rehearsal Assistant from 1998-2001. As a choreographer, he has been featured on the Dance Theater Workshop Guest Artist Series 2006 (New York, NY), the American Dance Festival Faculty Concert, 2005, D.U.M.B.O. Dance Festival (Brooklyn, NY), and the Cool NY Dance Festival (Brooklyn, NY). Formerly on the dance faculties of Shenandoah University and George Mason University, he has taught master classes and workshops in Contemporary Technique for prestigious national and international Dance Festivals. Mr. Thompson completed his MFA Research Fellowship in Dance from Bennington College in 2003.
As a choreographer, Keith is fascinated with dance’s capacity to communicate on its own, undressed. In his work, he explores form and the use of choreographic devices such as construction, deconstruction and innovation to manipulate and develop structures. He is on a trail of discovery that takes place within the moment, compositionally and conceptually. Complexity and the articulation of multiple pathways through and between spaces are a main focus of his work. Company website: http://www.dancetactics.org/
