Ways to Support the Institute of the Arts

Volunteer Opportunity

Usher for events and see them for free! The Institute of the Arts needs volunteers to usher for all of our programs. Volunteer ushers are the "face" of our organization to the public. We are looking for cheerful, conscientious people who enjoy the performing arts. Volunteer ushers may choose the events for which they usher.

We ask that volunteer ushers arrive one hour before the performance for training and preparation; duties include ticket-taking, assistance with seating; giving out programs; giving information and directions.

Ushers are asked to remain to the end of the program and to stay for a few minutes to tidy up the hall after the audience has exited.

To volunteer to be an usher, email ksilb@duke.eduor call 660-3356.

Make a Contribution

Ticket sales do not begin to cover the costs of presenting our wide range of distinguished and adventurous performances. While the university provides basic operating expenses for salaries and office expenses, all program-related expenses must be earned or contributed.

Contributions to the following funds are tax deductible and go entirely to support the artistic programs.

To make a monetary contribution, you may send a check (payable to Duke University/"name of fund", or make a credit card contribution.

Giving Options:

  • Friends of Duke Artists Series
