Map of Monitored Elections (click to enlarge)
The Project on International Election monitoring is a global data collection and research project sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF-SES-05-50111, $168,969.00).

This page features two data sets produced by the project, the Data on International Election Monitoring (DIEM) and the Quality of Elections Data (QED). In addition it also stores some hard to find election monitoring reports, research papers which have emerged from the project, as well as useful links to election resources.

Election monitoring is a prominent form of democracy promotion, widely advocated by governments and practiced by non-governmental organizations, regional organizations and intergovernmental organizations  globally. Research on international election monitoring is important to the study of how international organizations and transnational actors influence domestic politics more generally. It also has considerable practical implications for policy makers and organizations involved in election monitoring.

The project on International Election Monitoring is led by Judith Kelley at Duke University.
