ContactsPresident - The president provides leadership and presides over the organization. The role is designed to ensure the chapter works in concert with the regional and national organizations. The president keeps the chapter informed about AMA, NCMS, and DOCMS business and collaborates with other chapter leaders regarding organizational goals and objectives. Further, the president delegates authority and responsibility for achieving the desired outcomes to other officers, committees, and chairs.![]() Mitchell Bassett Vice President - The vice president is the president's deputy and who can take the president's place in the case the president is unavailable. The VP primarily helps the president delegate and complete tasks and helps keep board members informed. The VP is expected to help the president keep all the committees communicating effectively, so that they can effectively and efficiently accomplish the goals for the year. ![]() Mitchell Bassett Treasurer - The treasurer is in charge of keeping track of Duke AMA funds. S/he keeps an updated record of all money coming in and being spent. The treasurer must be able to tell AMA Board members the budgets for various activities when requested to do so. The treasurer is also in charge of collecting receipts from AMA members for club-related spending and dispensing reimbursement.
Angel Long Financial Procurement Officer - The financial procurement officer works with the leadership, in particular the treasurer, to fill out funding applications from the Davison Council and GPSC for the organization. ![]() Rikesh Gandhi Secretary - The secretary records meeting minutes and organizes the AMA general and Executive Board meetings. The secretary also informs members of meeting times and locations.
Patricia Chu Community Service Chair - The community service chair organizes and coordinates service activities for our chapter. The chair contacts local organizations, sets up possible dates in accordance with class scedules, recruits volunteers, and supervises events as they occur. ![]() Inas Aboobakar Russ Horres Communications Chair - The communications chair is in charge of maintaining the e-mail list and website for the chapter. He/she solicits information from the other committees regarding upcoming events and ensures that the website is maintained up to date.
Wendy Wang Fundraising Chair - The fundraising chair organizes the chapter fundraising events, such as the Date Auction. Responsibilities include organizing the events, recruiting help in logistics for recruitment activities, and soliciting local establishments. Kristin Bergethon __________________________________________________ Health Policy Committee - The Health Policy Committee is involved in keeping the chapter informed of the latest issues local and national issues facing physicians. The members help organize chapter involvement in national and state advocacy days for the AMA and NCMS.
Amy Askew   Ben Streufert Global Health Committee - This is the newest Duke AMA committee. It is charged with promoting global health awareness by inviting speakers and through other events. The committee is also responsible for compiling a database of international opportunities to make it easier for students to go abroad for 2nd and 4th year electives. This committee also collaborates with other global health organizations at Duke Med, such as the Global Health Interest Group and the global health committee of AMSA.
![]() Reeves Ellis   Mark Dakkak Social Committee - This committee helps ensures that members remain excited to be a part of the organization by developing fun activities. These events also help recruit future members to the chapter.
Anthony Fuller Daniel Graham Conference Committee - This committee is in charge of planning travel to the AMA annual and interim conferences, the AMA Region IV conference, the NCSM annual conference, and national and state Lobby Days. The committee must arrange for registration of participants for the conferences, reserve hotel rooms, and aid in finding airline tickets when appropriate. Ritu Arya Constitution Committee- The constitution committee updates the chapter constitution in accordance with the views of the chapter. Also, the constitution committee ensures that chapter elections and operations are run in accordance with the constitution. Membership Committee - The membership committee's main responsibility is to recruit members from the incoming class. It is in charge of handing out the applications, collecting them, and getting them to the AMA with the application dues.
George Li __________________________________________________ VOICES Editors - The Voices committee publishes the Duke AMA newsletter of the same namesake. The newsletter contains student-submitted articles about various aspects of health policy, global health, medical economics, or just life in medical school in general. The committee is responsible for soliciting articles, as well as editing and publication. This newsletter is sent to all Duke medical students, as well as various medical school deans and administrators, and interested students from other Duke schools. ![]() Russ Horres __________________________________________________ Executive Board Advisers - The executive board advisers are composed of individuals with invaluable experience, such as members from previous executive boards of the Duke AMA, and provide important suggestions and guidance to current officers.
