Progressive Meeting Minutes- October 28th, 2001

Here's what we talked about last nite in case you missed the meeting.
We had 19 people turn out!

The next Progressive Alliance will be Sun. Nov. 11 at 9 pm in 114 Carr.
Also, next Sunday Nov. 4 at 9 pm we'll have another planning meeting for
the USAS Southeast conference.

NOTES FROM MEETING

1) Report backs from events:
a) JwJ local meeting: Janeil, Bridget, and Amy will be our liasons to
JwJ representing Progressive.
b) SURGE Conference at UNC
c) USSA meeting in DC (Michaela and Allison)
d) UNC labor teach-in
e) Anti-war teach in/action (Chris)

2) IAF organizing session on Tues., Oct.30, 3:30-5 in Mary Lou Williams
Center (contact Jessica Rutter)

3) Progressive Alliance structure/constitution:
-we're getting closer to a constitution!
-Gray will email the list with the draft soon
-Bridget will look up alternative decision-making strategies and
report back at next meeting

4) SERC (Student Employee Relations Coalition)
Student-Employee Picnic: BE THERE!--Wed. Oct. 31, Von Canon (Bryan
Center)
-Picnic A (noon-1 pm)
-Picnic B (2:30-3:30pm)
-come to either, or both!

5) MLK Day Planning Committee: If you're interested in doing a
Duke/Durham relations art project (film, foto, painting, etc.) contact
Pavithra (pv5@duke.edu)

6) USAS (United Students Against Sweatshops) Southeast Conference
Nov.30-Dec.2 at DUKE!
-email Tony Williams (oipatriotoi@hotmail.com) to register
-we need people to help plan, so come to the next planning meeting on
Sun. Nov. 4 at 9 pm in 114 Carr
-conference will have all kinds of workshops on student organizing,
speakers from KukDong factory in Mexico, cool people. . .

7) Taco Bell in Marketplace!
-boycott Taco Bell because the workers picking their tomatoes are trying to get a union and are being ignored by Taco Bell
-Taco Bell burritos spotted in Marketplace!
-if you see one, take it and keep the wrapper so that we can prove to
Duke that they're seving them!

telling them you have a wrapper, or for more info

8) History of Duke organizing Teach-In: Nov. 14, 9 pm
-come to learn about student movements at Duke over the last 4 years
-a good chance to trade ideas with seniors and carry on the Duke
organizing tradition

9) Workers' Symposium: Nov.28 & 29
-sponsored by Rural Health Coalition
-organizing workshops by NCOSH and other groups
