Minutes-

Congratulations to all for Duke signing onto the WRC (We're the 89th
school), relating to a very successful meeting with Nan. Also, as of this
past Monday, all Mount Olive products will be pulled from Duke shelves. Look
for a celebration soon.

The USSAS Conference is being planed at full speed right now, and is set for
Nov 30- Dec 2, to mostly be hosted in the Mary Lou Williams center. Students
from many states have confirmed registration. Special guests will include
workers from the Kuk ong Factory in Mexico. There will also be a panel
discussion. Even Duke students should register- to do so, please send an
email to Tony at oipatriotoi@hotmail.com. Please spread the word and
encourage other students to represent us at this conference. Come to the
planning meeting or email Jonathan if you want to present or can host/help.

With regards to Taco Bell in the Marketplace, further dialogue will be
conducted with Jim Wulforst, and Nan will inquire as to the reasons for the
miscommunication.

Duke and Nan are actively moving on the New Era cap issues- a letter is in
the works that requests more info (New Era had already sent a letter
assuring all was well), as well as Nan threatening the issue of contract if
New Era caps continues to show lack of fairness in their labor policies.
Rumors have it that New Era could just decide to cut the collegiate apparel,
as it would eliminate the need to negotiate.
On a related note, BJ&B of the Dominican Republic gain the right to a Union,
now they must work to act on that.

The Worker's Justice Symposium will be right before the SAS conference, on
the 28th and the 29th, in the Mary Lou Williams center, where local leaders
will explain how students can be involved with and support the labor
struggle. Also, on the 26th of November, there will also be a UNC Panel
discussion about Labor issues in the south.

The teach-in to inform younger students of recent historical student
activism at Duke is still on for Wednesday night, at 9 pm in Carr 114.

Some Duke students will be going to SOA. Please attend the nonviolence
training on Wednesday.

Planning for Martin Luther King Day was not discussed.

The group discussed consensus decision-making and listened to Amy's
research. It was officially decided that the group will use consensus
decision-making, using a system of thumb signals, and must be at least 10
people to make any serious decisions. The List must be notified ahead of
time, or if the meeting is too small, the decision must be postponed or
referred to email. Each meeting will have at least a facilitator and a
notetaker at each meeting, to be determined at each previous meeting. It was
brought up that we should have/encourage facilitator training, and that we
should keep race/gender/class/sexual orientation in mind in our choices of
facilitator. No ideas should be marginalized by the facilitator

Note: It was brought up at a later date that maybe each issues should have a
set yet flexible amount of time to be discussed in.

Students from Progressive will participate in the NYSDAP peace sit-in on
Thursday at the west bus stop. There was a meeting Monday night (the 12th).
