Intern - the musical
The Duke University Department of Theater Studies will present Intern, an original musical writtenby Sarah Ellis and Julia Robertson as their senior distinction project. Intern will play in 209 East Duke on Duke’s East Campus Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at 8 pm. Admission is free.Ellis and Robertson began writing the play while they were studying in the Duke in New York program in fall of 2006. “Intern is a play about an intern in a Broadway production office with a crazy boss, an array of quirky co-workers, and a highly dysfunctional fax machine,” says Robertson. “We had a lot of fun working on Intern in New York. We were very encouraged by the support of our professors and classmates, so when it came time to submit distinction project proposals, Sarah and I decided that we wanted to continue working on our show and develop it into a full-length musical.”
The play is being directed by a Duke junior, Matthew Patrick, and the cast of 13 are all Duke students as well. “The amount of work has been tremendous, but it has been thrilling to see the show that we wrote come to life thanks to the talent of our fellow Duke students,” says Robertson.
