LUNCH BOX

What? Provocative conversations, new ideas, fresh work, and visiting artists

When? Fridays, 12:50 in the Brody Theater on East Campus

What about lunch? FREE box lunches for all who R.S.V.P. to Cyndi Bunn (cpbunn@duke.edu) by NOON the Thursday before you would like to attend. Otherwise, bring your own lunch. ALL should bring their own beverages. You may attend as often as you wish.

January 11   
Discover the work of Annabeth Gish in a mini-film festival in preparation for her visit to campus at the end of the month for a reading of a Reynolds Price play on February 2nd. Not only is she a Duke alum, she has a lengthy acting resume, including Eileen in the Showtime series Brotherhood, Elizabeth Bartlet Westin in The West Wing, Special Agent Monica Reyes in The X Files, and before she even came to Duke, as Kat, opposite Julia Roberts in Mystic Pizza.

January 18
Neal Bell will host this session, in which several short plays written by students in his fall semester playwriting class will be read, under the direction of the writers.

January 25
Meet Bill Worthen, a candidate for the position of chair of the Department of Theater Studies.

February 1

February 8
Dining with the DUS. Hear about the new Theater Studies major requirements from the Director of  Undergraduate  Studies Jeff Storer.

February 15
Moses Goldberg of the Stage One Theatre, the children's theater in Louisville, Kentucky, is our guest.

February 22
Join the always-dynamic Dana Marks and Jay O’Berski for a Suzuki Workshop.

February 29
John Clum joins us for an information session about the collaboration between Theater Studies and Hoof ‘n’ Horn for the fall 2008 mainstage musical production.

March 07
Spring Break begins. No Lunchbox.

March 21
Jefferson Mays, actor, will speak from 1-2:15pm. Followed by Vanessa Gibens, who joins us to discuss the O’Neill National Theater Institute, sharing information about its rigorous, conservatory-based approach to theater training.

April 11
Jeff Jones, Visiting Lecturer, will give a stage combat demonstration/workshop.

Jay O'Berski/Dana Marks discuss the  SITI company actor's intensive they attended this summer. Come hear about this unique training founded by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki.

Duke alum Seth Weitberg discusses Chicago Theater and Second City Improv Troupe. Seth will be performing on campus that night.

Neal Bell, Department of Theater Studies (DOTS) resident playwright discusses his current writing project and the Department’s New Works Festival for Spring 2008.

Works-In-Progress.  Students may show acting, directing, or writing projects in process and get feedback.  Email Jeff Storer (jmsheepdog@gmail.com) by Wednesday, September 19th to schedule a slot for your work.

Jody McAuliffe talks about her adaptation of My Lovely Suicides, currently in rehearsal and produced by The Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern as a part of Manbites Dog  Theater's Other Voices Series, Nov. 1-17.

Dining with the DUS and his entourage: Come have lunch with Jeff, DUS Assistant Dierdre Shipman and assorted faculty to find out about New Courses and Spring 2008 Registration.

Duke alum Kevin Poole and his colleague Joe Baker, recent MFA graduates of Naropa University, discuss their original show Hello Penis: A Man-ifesto currently in Durham as a part of the Manbites Dog Other Voices Series, Oct. 24-27.

Friday, November 2
Parent's Weekend Special Event: Student's work from class, including Beckett scenes from Senior Seminar and Chekhov scenes from 145S.  If you would like to show work, please email Jeff Storer (jmsheepdog@gmail.com) to schedule a slot for your work.

Friday, November 9
Guests from Classic Theater of Harlem on campus for Duke Performances, Nov. 9-10. This lunchbox will be held on West Campus in the Rehearsal Studio (Rm. 127) in the Bryan Center and is a collaboration with Duke Performances. Lunch served as usual.

Friday, November 16
Spring Awakening information and read-thru session.  Find out about the upcoming Spring Awakening auditions, meet the director and dramaturg, and take part in an informal read-thru of the script.  A great way to prepare for your audition!
