Re: Camping in "Krzyzewskiville"
The "Sixth
Man" is important to the success of Duke Basketball and camping at
Krzyzewskiville" has become a Duke tradition. In order to reduce hazards and provide a
safer environment, we have developed the following safety regulations. By adhering to the few restrictions listed
below we hope to improve your chances to return next year to camp again. Also listed are several accommodations to
ease the impact of these restrictions.

I. Camping
Restrictions:
A.
Tents:
Only commercial,
portable tents made of fabric and supported with a frame may be utilized. No wooden structures are allowed. Wooden pallets may not be used as flooring in
or under tents nor to building walkways.
Upholstered furniture may not be utilized inside the tent or in the
tenting area.
B. Camping
Areas:
Camping is restricted to the grassy areas in front of
Card Gym and the

Electrical cords, appliances and equipment:
Only battery operated appliances or equipment may be
utilized. Electrical generators, cords,
electrical appliances or equipment are prohibited.
C. Heaters and Heating Equipment:
Only battery powered hand warmers and similar items
may be utilized. Propane, Butane,
Kerosene, oil or other combustible liquid heaters are prohibited.
D.
Cooking:
Cooking equipment such as
grills, braziers, woks, etc. are prohibited in the camping area.
E. Fire Barrels:
No open fires (cooking, warming or celebration)
contained or uncontained will be allowed in the camping area.
II. Accommodations:
A. Bathrooms:
Duke Athletics will leave the North Lobby open until
B. Extreme
cold and/or adverse weather conditions:
During periods of extreme cold or adverse weather the
DSG representatives will meet with Mitch Moser to determine if camping will be
allowed to continue and to set time windows for excused absences under such
conditions.
C.
Computer Connections:
Data connections are located at the base of selected lampposts
surrounding the camping areas for personal computer hookups.
III. Monitoring:
A. Enforcement:
Duke Police and OESO-Fire Safety personnel will make
periodic checks of the camping area to assure compliance with safety
regulations. DSG line monitors will
report all safety violations to Duke Police.
Unauthorized tents, cooking equipment, electrical
appliances and equipment will be removed from the area by the owner.
Unannounced spot checks will be conducted by DSG as in
the past. Check with DSG line monitors
for further information concerning camping rules and regulations.
