CHAPTER HISTORY

On April 5, 1975, the Lambda Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on the campus of Duke University. Our eight charter members envisioned an organization of college women pledged to serious endeavor and community service. These remarkable students demonstrated a vital concern for the establishment of the FIRST black sorority on campus; they sought a vehicle to express their commitment to social welfare, academic excellence, and cultural enrichment. Our charter members are:

ROCHELLE DENNIS
PATRICIA EVANS
HELENA GOURDINE
LINDA HOOKER
DEBORAH KENNEDY
GAIL MORGAN
VANESSA ROGERS
MARILYN WISE

Their ideals of Black womanhood, love, support, and progress have withstood the test of time; and today, Lambda Omega is dedicated to a program of sharing membership skills and organizational services in the interest of the Duke and Durham communities. Today, under the guidance of the Lambda Omega Chapter, over 250 women have been born into the dynasty that IS Delta and they continue to uphold the ideals of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.
