Projects

One goal for the Fall semester of 2005 is to set up a number of short-term "projects" that teams of three to five Duke Democrats can work on to aid local policy makers and shakers. Examples include helping local activist Lanya Shapiro with her grassroots organizing efforts, creating a pressure group for Triangle Transit Authority lawyer (and former mayor of Durham) Wib Gulley, coordinating with organizers at UNC to host the longest basketball game in history to fundraise for the Hoop Dreams Basketball Academy, or working with Leslie Bevacqua Coman and the Capstrat team on issue oriented campaigns.

Vijay and Ben are spending this summer developing such relationships for the Duke Dems. If you, or anyone you know, has a good project--one with a definite start and end--for a couple of strapping, young college students to work on, please contact us. And please, check back later for more details.
