STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

By hosting ECASU 2002, we are committed to furthering national unity and collaborative action on Asian Pacific American (APA) issues, and to creating a united East Coast Asian Pacific American alliance that will transcend spatial and psychological delineations. Particularly, we aim to ignite a renewed fervor for the Asian Pacific American civil rights movement in the South, a politically stagnant region for Asian Pacific Americans. The primary goals of ECASU 2002 are:

  1. to develop and share leadership concepts and skills in the context of the Asian Pacific and Asian Pacific American community.
  2. to strengthen relations and build coalitions between Asian Pacifics, Asian Pacific Americans, and their respective communities and organizations.
  3. to initiate discussion regarding the conditions and concerns of little-recognized Asian Pacific and Asian Pacific American communities, particularly Southeast Asian and the LGBT communities
  4. to generate meaningful and provoking dialogue on a spectrum of present-day Asian Pacific and Asian Pacific American issues
