Praxis Information for Elementary Certifiers
The purpose of this Web page is to provide Duke students with information about the Praxis tests that are required to become a certified teacher in North Carolina.
How do I register for a Praxis test?
- Get a copy of the Praxis Registration Bulletin in Room 213, West Duke Building or online at the Praxis Web site at: http://www.ets.org/praxis
- Registration must be received approximately one month before test date. Check the Praxis Registration Bulletin for exact mail-in and online registration due dates: http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxreg.html
What Praxis tests do I need to take for Licensure in North Carolina?
All candidates are required to take Praxis I or provide evidence of scoring a minumum of 1100 on the SAT.

What dates are the Praxis tests given this year and where can I
take them?
Visit the Praxis website for an up-to-date calendar of paper-based test administration dates and locations. Computer-based tests are also available for Praxis I.
What date(s) should I sign-up for the tests?
Praxis I: PPST
All students must complete and pass the PPST (Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Test) or provide evidence of scoring a minimum of 1100 on the SAT BEFORE they can be formally accepted into the Teacher Preparation Programs.
