STEPS IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS
- Speak with your faculty advisor/s concerning your academic and career interests. Advisors in the Academic Advising Center will help you explore options.
- Come by the Program in Education Office (213 West Duke Building) to obtain information and/or speak to a member of the Education faculty. Review any materials carefully to determine if you wish to apply.
APPLICATION TO THE PROGRAM IN EDUCATION
- Applicants to the secondary certification program complete a written application. Stop by 213 West Duke Building to pick up a hard copy of the application .
- Applications are accepted starting in the sophomore year. Application is open through the spring semester of the junior year (if enrollment is not yet full), but because space in the program is limited, students are encouraged to apply before that time. For more information about the application process, contact Dr. Susan Wynn (919-660-2403).
AFTER APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM
- After the application materials have been reviewed, students will have an individual interview with the director of the Secondary Teacher Preparation Program and with one or more members of the teacher preparation admissions committee. Interviews will be held near the end of the spring semester of the sophomore year. Students applying after the sophomore year will be interviewed on a rolling basis.
- After the interview, students will be notified of acceptance.
- In the junior year, an orientation session for all accepted candidates is held.
- Candidates are required to take Praxis 1 (Pre-professional Skills Tests): Reading, Writing and Mathematics or provide evidence of scoring a minimum of 1100 on the SAT.
