Janet Maceda came to the EIS program in 2001 from Durham Technical Community College (DTCC), where she taught all levels of ESL writing and speaking as well as The American Experience course co-sponsored by Duke International House and DTCC.  She currently teaches all courses offered in the EIS program as well as English for Environmental Science and Policy for international masters students in the Nicholas School. She is also on the faculty of the Fuqua School of Business where she teaches an oral presentations course, directs ESL curriculum for the Summer Institute for international students, and is developing an ESL workshop for first year international MBAs.

Janet's research interests center on cross-cultural communications skills and curriculum development. An ongoing project involves developing the language skills curriculum for the U.S. State Department-sponsored Middle East Partnership Initiative summer program, first held at Duke in the Summer of 2004. Outside of the classroom she does ESL tutoring and manuscript editing for private clients.

Janet received her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, did graduate work at Princeton University, and completed ESL certification at Duke. She has traveled widely on every continent (except Antarctica) and maintains an active interest in sports, politics, and reading mystery novels in her spare time.
