The Southeast Student Renewable Energy Conference is an event created
by university students for university students.
The majority of the SSREC planning committee is made up of students
from the University of North Carolina, Duke University, and NC State
University. Most are members in active student environmental organizations,
including:
UNC Student Environmental
Action Coalition - UNC's chapter of the national organization
SEAC, which works for progressive social and environmental change.
UNC SEAC lead the successful campaign to pass a renewable
energy referendum committing a portion of student fees to
the purchase of renewable energy for the campus.
Duke University
Environmental Alliance - Duke's undergraduate environmental
organization committed to promoting the implementation of sustainable
practices at Duke University, through education, advocacy, and
activism. Last spring, Environmental Alliance launched the Duke
Green Power Challenge which has already been recognized by
the EPA's Green Power Partnership.
Duke University Greening Initiative
- A new environmental organization aimed at bringing together
students from all of Duke's schools (Law, Business, Engineering,
undergraduate) to promote environmental stewardship in every facet
of life at Duke. Currently, DUGI is researching cutting edge energy
options for the replacement of Duke's coal powered steam plant.
Central's Environmental Awareness Student
Effort (CEASE) - a student environmental group at North
Carolina Central University
In addition to students from these organizations, there are many
members of the SSREC planning committee not affiliated with an
organization. E-mail one of the contacts above to get involved.
