Provides key university services including construction, engineering, grounds, housekeeping, parking & transportation, real estate, dining, DukeCard, retail and book stores, event management, conference services, disability management, mail, police, security and utilities.
Kemel Dawkins became Vice President for Campus Services, in August 2003, assuming a new role that combined portions of the previous operations of auxiliary services with facilities management, police and capital assets.
Kemel Dawkins came to Duke from Yale University, where he served for eight years as associate vice president for facilities and directed major construction and renovation projects. He held the position of Acting Vice President for Finance and Administration at Yale during 2000-01 while a national search was underway to fill the position.
Prior to his position at Yale, Kemel held the positions of Associate Vice President of Facilities at Stanford University, and Director of the Department of Construction and Project Management at University of Pennsylvania. He has also served as Chief Financial Officer of Kem-Her Construction Company in Philadelphia.
He is a graduate of Princeton University.
