Freewater will be hosting an equipment workshop Sunday September 28 at 1PM, location TBA. This workshop is highly recommended for anyone who will be on set working with Freewater equipment this year as well as anyone who wishes to know the technical possibilities and limitations of a Freewater film. Steve Milligan will be going over the different pieces of equipment, what they are for, how to use them, and how not to break them. More information to come soon.

The Freewater film community leaders meeting was held today as an open discussion on ways for the film community at Duke to integrate and communicate with each other. The two biggest initiatives to come out of this were the expansion of the listserv as a forum for all topics relating to film and the  creation of a contact list of students at Duke who are active in film.

The Freewater mailing list will be pushed as a forum for cast and crew calls,  advice and suggestions, concepting and development, and general communication within the film community outside of formal classes (FVD). In addition, Freewater will be communicating with other film groups on campus, such as FVD and Cable 13, so that important messages reach all film groups on campus. The use of guerilla marketing campaigns beyond the traditional flyering and tabling to get publicity for the listserv was also discussed at the meeting.

The contact information for everyone who attended the meeting can be found in the contacts section of the website. This information includes the primary production role (i.e. writer, editor, cinematographer) as well as genre of interest (i.e comedy, experimental) of each contact. This will form the base for the growing Duke community film contact list. If you wish to be added to the list, please send your contact information to sg57@duke.edu.

Additionally, the Freewater facebook group will serve as a mode of social networking and publicity for events, as well as a secondary means of communication. Finally, the Freewater website will act as a hub linking together portfolios and websites of production groups, a contact database for film community, and a blog posting important film events and announcements.

As always Freewater is accepting grants for spring semester. Applications can be found under the grants section.
