What do you get when you cross ten smart middle school
students, a multi-media lab, and cutting edge Duke Labs
... a collection of unique multi-media web pages. This web
resource is targeted to area teachers interested in planning
field trip opportunities.
These students started from scratch and visited six different
labs for two days each. Then they took the information gathered
and created web pages for each lab. The pages include video
interviews, still pictures, key information in planning
a field trip, and student's impressions of the labs.
The program operates for one week during the summer. Students
are selected based on interest in multimedia, curiousity
in exploring educational resources, and ability to work
well in a team environment.
The mornings are devoted to lab visits and the afternoons
are spent training in video production and editing, web
design, and photography. After each session, the students
use the information to work on the web sites for the labs
visited that morning.
To round out the experience, students swim and play at
the Duke Faculty Club and use their Duke Cards for meals
and snacks on campus.
