September 05, Day Trip to Hyco Lake

Along with CMDA and CLS, we'll be taking a day trip to the lake house at Hyco Lake on Saturday September 5th. You must RSVP to Steve Hinkle ( ) by the end of the day Thursday 09/03 if you plan to attend; carpooling information and more details will follow.  Lunch and dinner will be served onsite and will cost $5 each meal per person.

Our speaker this week is Dr. Christian (Chris) Smith. Dr. Smith is a nationally renowned Sociologist, formerly on faculty at UNC but now at Notre Dame.
The title of his talk is: "What is a Person? Rethinking Humanity, Social Life, and the Moral Good from the Person Up - and the Limits of What We Can Know of Human Persons apart from Revelation from 'the Top Down'"

**Operation Christmas Child**

Operation Christmas Child is an international service project run by Samaritan's Purse that sends "shoeboxes" of school supplies, toys, clothing and other little treats to children in need around the world.  The Women's Small Group will be putting together some boxes and we encourage other small groups or individuals to participate as well. Instructions on items to include and packing info are on the OCC website. Local drop-off locations the week of November 17-24 are Grey Stone Baptist Church and Chapel Hill Bible Church. If you bring completed boxes to Large Group on 11/14/08, Amber Díaz will drop all of them off.  E-mail if you have any questions.

August 29, Back-To-School Picnic

Join us anytime from 5:00-7:30pm on the lawn between the Duke Chapel and the Bryan Center for some tasty (FREE) grilled food and sides (includes meat and vegetarian options).
This is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new grads, so whether you're incoming or returning, come take a break from the first week of school and get some good food and more information about GCF's events this year!

July 3, Worship Night

We'll have an informal evening of worship together in the Chapel basement Thursday, July 3, from 7:45-9:30PM.  Somewhere in between a jam session and a regular worship service, we'll have some songbooks with chord charts available and will be selecting songs to play then and there.  Everyone is welcome; bring a friend!  Please bring an instrument and/or music if you'd like to play, and bring your Bible if you'd like to share some Scripture with the group.
**NOTE**
The Chapel is locked at 8:00PM during the summer (there will be no attendant upstairs after that time).  We have permission to be in the basement after lock-up, but if you cannot get there before 8:00, make sure you have a friend who will be there to let you in because your DukeCard will not work after 8:00.ome to the Chapel kitchen any time between 2:00 and 5:00 this Thursday, 24 April

We'll be preparing and serving dinner at the Good Samaritan Inn, the women and children's division of the Durham Rescue Mission.
