March 20 - Sunday afternoon - Durham Crop Walk

Registration Sign In: 1:30PM / Walk Start Time: 2:30PM (sharp!)
Meet: In front of the Duke Chapel; walk will be round trip to East Campus (5 mi. total).
GCF is collaborating with the International Christian Fellowship (ICF) this year for the annual Durham Crop Walk organized by Church World Service for hunger relief in our community and all over the world. A web page has been set up for anyone who would like to make a donation or participate in the walk or both. You may support someone else who is already doing the walk or you may register your name on the website as a walker and solicit donations from your friends, lab mates, etc. to support you. See website for details. With your support, we can meet (and hopefully exceed) our goal of raising $1,000 between GCF and ICF. Credit cards are accepted.

There will be *a lot* of people in the Duke Chapel Quad on that day. So, if you are interested in joining the rest of the GCF/ICF team, please call Sola at (585) 415-0962 and he will try to direct you to our exact location. Donation is not a requirement for participating in the walk.

If you have any questions about any of the following programs, please contact the Leadership Team.

1) Durham Rescue Mission tutoring

(http://www.durhamrescuemission.org/) :
We currently have a tutoring program for the school-aged children living at the Durham Rescue Mission. Every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:15pm, a small group of us have been going to help the kids there with their homework and to give them additional enrichment in reading and math. We also try to have some time to just hang out and play with the kids. We've also started partnering with a group from the Church of the Good Shepherd that tutors on Tuesday evenings. If you'd like to help out on either Tuesday or Thursday night, please let Hansford know. The kids have really enjoyed having us there and it's a lot of fun for us too :)

2) A Helping Hand

(http://www.ahelpinghandnc.org) :
If you prefer to work with a more mature age group, the organization "A Helping Hand" is looking for volunteers to help with their program. Basically, volunteers will be paired up with senior citizens in the local area who may be in need of assistance with household chores, running errands, or simply wanting companionship. It's a really great way to develop friendships with people living out in the surrounding community and also meet some of their needs.

3) Freedom House

(http://www.rtpnet.org/freedom/) :
The Freedom House in Chapel Hill provides housing and a recovery program for individuals with drug/alcohol addictions. They are in need of volunteers willing to help with database entry and other office work. The tasks are usually pretty simple, but they appear to be a little short staffed and could use a little help in the office.
