Final Instructions for Faculty
The Academic Procession. Faculty and staff
participating in the academic procession of the Graduation Exercises on
Sunday, May 11, should assemble in Room 131 of the Yoh Football Building
no later than 9:30 a.m. There will be signs for the faculties of Arts
and Sciences (Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences); the
professional schools; and the general and academic administration.
Except for marshals for the schools, the faculty will march in a double
column. When the candidates for degrees have taken their places, the
faculty marches through the tunnel and onto the field and then to seats
on either side of the platform. Please walk in pairs until the columns
part at a point near the platform. Men should remove their caps at the
beginning of the ceremony for the singing of the National Anthem and
replace them when they stand for the Procession from the stadium after
the Exercises. The program should be concluded before 11:30 a.m.
Diploma Ceremonies. Closing ceremonies of the
schools and the distribution of diplomas by departments and programs of
Trinity College follow the Graduation Exercises. Each member of the
faculty is urged to attend the ceremony of his or her school,
department, or program. Faculty presence at these occasions is expected
and always appreciated by the graduates and their families.
Reception. Faculty, staff, and their guests are
cordially invited to attend the Reception honoring the graduating
classes on Saturday afternoon, May 10, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on the
lawn south of East Duke Building on East Campus. In the event of rain,
the Reception is held in the East Campus Union. Music is provided by
the Duke University Wind Symphony.
Reserved Parking. Reserved parking for the use
of faculty and staff participating in the Graduation Exercises will be
the two lots directly beside the Sheffield Tennis Building on
Wannamaker Drive (between Duke University Road and Towerview Drive).
For this reserved parking, you need only to identify yourself to the
officers on duty as a member of the faculty or staff. Your academic
robe is your parking permit.
