index announcements keynote Duke University
Welcome to the Duke University
Graduate Student Symposium 2007 website!

The sixteenth annual Biological Sciences Graduate Student Symposium will be held on Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9, 2007.

We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne, Senior Vice President, Research Drug Discovery, at Genentech, Inc. His unique perspective on both the academic and corporate worlds will be beneficial not only for graduate students considering their future career paths, but for post-docs and faculty as well.

We will kick-off the symposium on Thursday, November 8, 2007, with a casual discussion with Dr. Tessier-Lavigne, followed by hors d'oeuvres and happy hour. All graduate students, post-docs, and faculty are encouraged to attend.

On Friday, we will commence at the Bryan Research Building with breakfast, followed by presentations in 103 Bryan Research Auditorium by Duke University graduate students from the biological sciences departments. A poster session and lunch will be held in the Hall of Science in the LSRC that will feature the work of graduate students.

The day will conclude with an address by Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne.

There is much to be gained in coming to all or part of the event: check out the research going on around you at Duke and hear the perspective of Dr. Tessier-Lavigne's and his unique perspective on experiences in both academia and industry. Come out to enjoy a free breakfast and lunch, earn an honorarium and gain valuable experience by presenting your work to your peers, or be eligible for monetary prizes by submitting a poster.

Please register abstracts of presentations, posters, or cover art for the abstract book and peruse the schedule at the links below.  Further announcements and information on this year's keynote speaker will be found at the links above.
