If you feel harassed…

The most beneficial step is to seek assistance and address the situation as soon as possible. If you are a faculty or non-faculty staff, the following people/offices can help you:

· Your manager or supervisor
· Your department chair
· The faculty ombudsperson
· The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE)
· Human Resources Staff and Labor Relations

Office for Institutional Equity (OIE)

Under the auspices of the President, The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) provides institutional leadership in sustaining a respectful and inclusive environment. Administrative responsibility for implementing the Duke University Harassment Policy rests with OIE. The office provides a range of services to employees, managers, senior leaders and students that ensure access to employment and educational opportunities, coordinates federal and state compliance efforts, and facilitates learning opportunities for the Duke community.

Personal Assistance Service (PAS)

Personal Assistance Service is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offers assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 416-1PAS (416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.

Disability Management System

The Disability Management System serves as a central clearinghouse on disability-related information at Duke University and Duke University Health System. Some of the services provided by DMS include:

Accessibility Maps of the campus and health facilities highlighting accessible paths of travel, parking and entrances for individuals with disabilities

Assistive Technologies & Equipment to accommodate individual needs

Implementing the Duke Accommodations Procedures; these procedures provide clear instructions on how to initiate physical, psychological or learning disability-related requests for work or academic accommodations.
