Using the Bacus Virtual Microscope

If you are experiencing difficulty viewing slides using the Aperio system, the Bacus system is also available.

Note: Access to the Bacus system from off campus requires a connection through the health system VPN (for help with connecting to the VPN, click here).

To view slides using Firefox, Safari, or Chrome Browsers:

From the Bacus WebSlide Server click the fourth link on the page, “View microscope slides with the Java viewer (using a web browser)”.  A drop down menu of specific webslide folders will appear at the left side of the screen.  Click on the folder of interest to open a gallery of webslide thumbnails.  Click the thumbnail of interest to load the image.  The webslide will appear in a large window at low magnification.

To view slides using Internet Explorer:

From the Bacus WebSlide Server click the first link on the page, “View microscope slides with the ActiveX viewer (using Windows Internet Explorer)”.  A drop down menu of specific webslide folders will appear at the left side of the screen.  Click on the folder of interest to open a gallery of webslide thumbnails.  Click the thumbnail of interest to load the image.  The webslide will appear in a large window at low magnification.
