Reggies in the Community

Among their other commitments, Reggies make it a top priority to serve the community.  Some scholars spend their summers working at education facilities in third world countries, grassroots organizing in underserved communities, or working with local and national political campaigns.  Throughout the academic year, many scholars volunteer at Duke Hospital or tutor children from Durham primary and secondary schools.

As a group, we participate in several community service initiatives.  We partner with the John Hope Franklin Scholars, a college preparatory program for Durham high school students.  Scholars help prepare lesson plans for each meeting and serve as mentors for the Franklin scholars.  We also work with the Ronald McDonald House located on Duke’s campus. As our program continues to expand, our focus on community service broadens as well.  Reggies constantly seek opportunities to serve our local community.
