Bhutanese Empowerment Project (BEP) Tutoring, Every Thursday, 5-9pm - In collaboration with a coalition of UNC student organizations, Duke HSA has been volunteering to tutor the children of Bhutanese refugees living in the Triangle area. We are still looking for more volunteers to come help tutor the kids. Right now we tutor them every Thursday in Raleigh, leaving at 5pm and getting back around 9pm. We might open more spots on Saturday if there is enough interest! Rides are provided. If you're interested in tutoring, please email ym15@duke.edu for more details.

Main Annual Events

Fall Semester

Navarathri Garba - Navarathri is a Hindu festival that lasts 9 days and 9 nights and typically falls before Diwali. The Hindu Bhavan at Morrisville, NC organizes a fun garba/raas dance event for all 9 nights. HSA usually subsidizes tickets for one night and provides rides to and from the Hindu Bhavan.

Diwali - The Diwali Puja (Prayer) and Celebration is one of the main events organized by HSA. It has traditionally been a puja, and this year we're hoping to make Diwali into a larger scale celebration with performances and Garba. A catered vegetarian dinner from Tower restaurant will be provided.

Spring Semester

Sivaratri Puja - HSA has an annual puja in honor of the festival of Sivaratri. Food from Tower Restaurant is provided after the sevice.

HSA Week - HSA week seeks to educate the Duke community about Hinduism through interactive and educational events.

Baccalaureate Service - HSA organizes a baccalaureate service for graduating seniors at the end of every academic year. Seniors are honored for their achievements and receive a small copy of the Bhagavad Gita. The service is followed by a reception.
