Ruth Boyd

Ruth Spaulding Boyd was born on October 29, 1926 to two proud parents on 1003 Fayetteville Street, now known as Old Fayetteville Street. All of her education took place in Durham. She attended North Carolina College for Negroes and received her master's degree in education in 1964 from the same school which is now known as North Carolina Central University. She worked as a teacher in Durham for 29 years finally retiring in 1977. During that time, she taught second and third graders at Burton School for 15 years R .N. Harris School for 2 years, and Y.E. Smith School for 7 years. Mrs. Boyd is married with a son and a grandchildren. She's been a member of White Rock Baptist Church all her life. She taught Sunday School for 25 years and sang on the Junior Choir and Senior Choir. Mrs. Boyd is the chair of the Scholarship Committee and the Nominating Committee for Church Officers and is also on the Board of Trustees. Ruth Spalding Boyd believes that we are all here for a purpose, we need to try to do something in life, to make someone happy, for us to be happy. What makes her happy is when she can do something to make someone else happy.
