Underwriting much of the Franklin Humanities Institute’s
programming is a generous three-year grant from the Andrew
W. Mellon Foundation, received in 2002 for an initiative called
“Making the Humanities Central.” In addition to supporting
many areas of the FHI’s programming, the grant also provides
the means for the Humanities Institute to become a clearinghouse
for communications about arts- and humanities-related events sponsored
by Duke's core humanities departments. Finally, the grant supports
an annual dinner of Duke department chairs designed to promote friendship
and collegiality among practitioners of the humanities, arts, and
narrative social sciences at the university.
Humanities Communication and Publicity
If you have humanities- or arts-related events, accomplishments,
or announcements you would like publicized through the Humanities
Institute’s channels (web site, listservs, contacts with the
Duke
News Service, and eventually, a newsletter), please contact
the Making the Humanities Central Project Manager, Anne
Mitchell Whisnant.
