Wednesdays, 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m., John Hope
Franklin Center Room 240.
Wednesdays
at The Center is a weekly noontime series in which distinguished
scholars, editors, and artists speak informally about their work
in conversation with those who attend. Sponsored by the interdisciplinary
programs of Duke University's John Hope Franklin Center, all Wednesdays
at The Center are free and open to the public. Topical, relevant,
challenging, vital, and fun, they underscore the importance of the
humanities to a deep understanding of our lives and our world. Light
refreshments are served. No reservations are necessary, and vouchers
to cover parking in the Duke Medical Center parking deck are provided.
Our 2003-04 Series begins September 3, 2003 with William
Ferris, Senior Associate Director of the Center for the
Study of the American South, University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. Ferris, former head of the National Endowment for the Humanities,
will discuss "Memory and Sense of
Place in the American South."
