About the Show

On their first night freshman year, Julia Robertson and Sarah Ellis were fated to meet during the orientation party on the East Campus quad. Four years later, they have co-written a full-length, original musical which has been over a year in the making.

Intern the Musical began as a final project for the fall 2006 Duke in NY Arts program. Drawing on their often overwhelming personal experiences interning in the city, Julia and Sarah began composition with an uncertain plot line and annoyingly repetitive songs - but with a great deal of passion. It is this creative fervor which prompted them to take up their pens again in fall 2007 to finish Intern as a Theater Studies distinction project.

Musicals are truly written in the revision process, and with a year to develop their talents as librettist and composer, Julia and Sarah finally honed Intern into an integrated show, worthy of performance. Many thanks are due to our advisors John Clum and Anthony Kelley for their continual supply of criticism and support, as well as to our flexible cast and crew, who have been integral to the creative process. Special thanks, as well, to the Theater Studies department for supporting such a unique and valuable artistic experience.
