Sign-upsDescription:The Neuse begins north of Durham at the confluence of the Eno and Flat Rivers. This is close to the beginning of Falls Lake. It is 24 miles to Falls Dam, northeast of Raleigh. Below the dam, the Neuse passes Raleigh, Smithfield, Goldsboro, and Kinston. It becomes a shallow, slow-moving, brackish estuary just upstream from New Bern. Where it empties into the Pamlico Sound, the Neuse has the widest river mouth in the continental United States. The Neuse River empties into Pamlico Sound below New Bern. It is one of three large rivers that flow into the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds. The estuarine system is the second largest in the United States. A paddling journey from Falls Dam to New Bern covers 193 miles. This eTrail contains 20 sections of the Neuse River from Falls Dam Tailrace to Glenburnie Park access at New Bern. Experience level: Must be a confident swimmer, previous canoe or kayaking a bonus but not necessary. Cost:$40 per person includes transportation, kayaks, PFD, paddle and lunch. Meet: Brodie Rec Center Date:September 29th Departure/Start Time: 8:00AM Return/End Time: 6:00PM Transportation: 15 Passenger van Waiver: Download from the internet and bring completed form to event. If you have a waiver on file for the current year there is no need to fill out another one. Extra copies will be on hand. Weather: Average High 69 degrees, Low 45 degrees, Mean 57 degrees, Records High 86 degrees (1999), Low 33 degrees (1972) Clothing: You will need “layers” of comfortable and appropriate seasonal clothing, shoes that can get wet, sun screen, sun glasses, rain gear and dry clothing for the ride home. “Layering” is the common practice of wearing multiple layers (base or wicking layer, middle or insulating layer, and top or waterproof/resistant layer) of clothing to regulate body heat.
