Blue Devils tame Lions 8-0
HILLSBOROUGH, NC -- Duke tamed The College of New Jersey Lions
8-0 on Saturday night. The win concludes a three-game stretch
for the Blue Devils in which Duke has outscored its opponents
by a 25-1 margin.
In what was Duke's second game of the weekend, the Blue Devils
set the tone early. Ben Tyson scored just nine seconds into
the game in what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Ben
Peterson then netted a power play goal just 2:29 into the
game. Peterson would repeat the feat with another power play
tally with 4:59 left in the opening period. Brian Markowitz
closed the first period by scoring with 1:59 left.
Duke's 4-0 lead grew to 7-0 in the second period. Goals in
the second frame were scored by Dave Bradley, Issey Kato and
Dave Rabin.
The Devils employed a very passive forecheck in the final
period in order to prevent injury and preserve the shutout.
The only scoring came with 1:55 left in the game on a power
play goal by Jesse Swanko. Swanko's goal was the third of
three power play goals scored on the night by the PBS line
of Peterson, Bradley and Swanko. Meanwhile, strong play between
the pipes by Marc Roitman ensured the doughnut on The College
of New Jersey side of the scoreboard.
The Blue Devils will seek to extend their seven-game win
streak when they play their third ACCHL game of the season
next Saturday night. The George Mason Patriots will be coming
to town for a 10:15 PM opening faceoff.
