2003-04 Duke Hockey team awards announced
DURHAM, NC -- The Duke Hockey team recently held its end-of-the-year
banquet in downtown Durham to celebrate its ACCHL championship
season as well as offer a final sendoff for its eight graduating
seniors. During the festivities, outgoing president Jesse Swanko
announced Duke Hockey’s annual team awards. Many awards
are named after former Blue Devil players as well as team traditions,
and winners were chosen by secret ballot. Voting was restricted
entirely to this year’s team members. The 2003-2004 Duke
Hockey team awards and winners are as follows:
Rookie of the Year:
Ryan Eick, Freshman, Defense
Coach’s Award for Hardest Worker:
Steve Lake, Sophomore, Forward
Most Improved Player of the Year:
Peter Elkins-Williams, Freshman, Forward
Blue Devil Award for Most Team Spirit:
Jesse Swanko, Senior, Forward
Roald J. Llado Award for Best Defensive Forward:
David Bradley, Senior, Forward
Luke T. Wolin Award for Best Defenseman:
Calvin Hui, Senior, Defense
Most Valuable Player:
Clayton Jernigan, Grad Student, Goaltender
Charlie Schaefer Award for Gumby of the Year:
Ben Tyson, Freshman, Forward
