2001-2002
Durham Life Chain 2001 - 10/7/01 - This was
the first year that Duke Students for Life organized the Durham
Life Chain. We had so much fun in previous years that we couldn't
let it go unorganized, so we did it ourselves and contacted hundreds
of Durham churches to participate.
American Collegians for Life Conference - 01/18-20/02 - Attended
the American
Collegians for Life Conference held annually in Washington,
DC just before the March for Life. We heard from some great
pro-life speakers and soaked in new ideas of how to engage
the campus. We also had a great time meeting with our counterparts
on so many other campuses around the nation.
March for Life - 01/22/02 - Marched on the Supreme Court, the
place where Roe v. Wade became a national tragedy. We joined
with hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers to tell the culture
that we will not sit idly and watch the weakest among us be
picked off by ignorance and lies. It was an awesome sight to
see so many champions and advocates for life. We want to make
this event a yearly trip for DSFL.
Feminists for Life Speaker - 03/28/02 - Sally Winn, Vice President
of Feminists for Life of America, presented "Refuse to Choose:
Reclaiming Feminism" on Thursday, March 28, 2002. Attendees
learned about the pro-life beginnings of first-wave American
feminism. Feminist foremothers like Mary Wollstonecraft and
Susan B. Anthony were adamantly pro-life and considered abortion
a great evil against women. Ms. Winn also discussed better "choices" for
women and better options that the society should be providing
to them. The event was co-sponsored by Duke Students for Life,
the Kenan Institute for Ethics, the College Republicans, and
the Women's Center.

Durham Life Chain 2002 - 10/6/02 - For the
second consecutive year, Duke Students for Life organized the
Durham Life Chain, bringing pro-life Christians from area churches
to stand in silent protest with signs that read "Abortion Kills
Children."
