Group History

Duke Students for Life has a long tradition and has existed since at least the late 1970s. In the April 6, 1981, issue of TIME magazine, there is a very large picture of a Washington, D.C., pro-life rally concerning the Human Rights Amendment. Pictured is a close-up photo across a two-page spread of a large banner, at the bottom of which appears the name "Duke Students for Life."

In 1993-1994, the group was very active and met every single week. Rodrigo Morales (pictured left), Amanda Moody (pictured right), and Keven LeBlanc led the group for much of the mid-1990s. The organization was resurrected during the 1997-1998 academic year after a short period of inactivity.

The next few years of leadership came with the copresidency of Courtney Laginess (pictured left) and Steve Hong in 1998-1999. During their time at Duke, both also served as officers of American Collegians for Life, a national college pro-life organization.

Steve continued to lead the group until May 2002 when he to work full-time in the pro-life movement for Fr. Frank Pavone (both pictured right) at Priests for Life. When he returned to the Triangle for a couple of years, he played a valuable role once again, this time as advisor and webmaster.

Today, the group is still raising campus awareness under the leadership of a new generation of students. We invite you to be come part of DSFL's most recent history.
