An active Emergency Physician shadowing program is in place at Duke. Five Attending Physicians host students during their normal workdays in the Emergency Department. This is a great chance to see what the life of a busy academic Emergency Physician is like. The experience is primarily observational.

An opportunity also exists to shadow Emergency Physicians at other local hospitals.
Edward LaMay, MD is the Emergency Department Chief at Durham County Hospital. Contact him directly for shadowing experience.
Scott Meyer, MD is a staff physician at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. Cape Fear Valley MC is an extremely busy trauma center. The experience there will be well worth the road trip.
Cherri Hobgood, MD at UNC welcomes students interested in Emergency Medicine.
Brian Quigley at the Rex Hospital ED is also willing to allow shadowing.
