Dr. Kevin LaBar

Dr. Kevin LaBar graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lafayette College, where he received his B.A. in Mathematics and Psychology in 1990. In 1996, he completed his Ph.D. in Neural Science at New York University's Center for Neural Science in the laboratory of Dr. Joseph LeDoux. From 1996-1997, he was a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth Phelps at Yale University in the Department of Psychology. He served as Instructor in the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center at Northwestern University Medical School under the directorship of Dr. Marsel Mesulam from 1997-1999. In 1999, Dr. LaBar joined Duke University's Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006, and now serves as Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. He maintains a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Duke University Medical Center. He has received several academic honors and awards, including a Scholar of the Year Award from the Lafayette College Alumni Association, two Young Investigator Awards from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, and a Young Investigator Award from the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. He serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience and as a Consulting Editor for the journals Behavioral Neuroscience and Emotion. Dr. LaBar's research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. He has lectured on topics in Cognitive Neuroscience, Emotion and the Brain, Memory, and Aging and Alzheimer's Disease.
