One-Part Form: The Baroque Prelude
Write a short (i.e., 12-16 measures) prelude in the key of B-flat major. Your prelude will contain:
- a tonic pedal point (at beginning)
- an expanded or tonicized pre-dominant area
- a tonicization of the dominant
- a dominant pedal
- an appropriate cadential gesture at the end.
As with the models analyzed in class, try to sustain a 3- or 4- voice texture. Be careful to observe proper doublings and voice-leading procedures.
