Expectations


Teams of research-active Duke and NCCU faculty, preferably one from each institution, are encouraged to jointly submit an application to the STEM Partnership Program that proposes a 12 month research project comprised of a scientific justification, an experimental or research training plan, and a budget summing to a maximum of $25K. Applicants should consider the following.

(1) A scientific match between the Duke and NCCU faculty members either in terms of shared scientific interests or gaining access to technology.
(2) A research plan that substantially involves a component of the project to be performed at Duke.
(3) The central involvement of an NCCU Masters of Science student in the research or training plan.
(4) The participating NCCU student is expected to apply to a STEM graduate program at a PhD-granting institution during or following completion of the project.
(5) The participating NCCU faculty member is expected to apply for independent funding following completion of the project.

 

Application Process

(1) A request for proposals will be released in mid-June.
(2) Intent to submit email due is July 1. This should include the names of partnering faculty members and sentence or two describing the research plan. Please send email as per the Contact page.
(3) Applications are due July 15. Awards are announced by August 15. Project duration will run from September 1 to August 31.
