Throughout this website I have documented many ecological consequences of both climate change and endocrine disrupting chemicals. While not all of the ecological effects presented are unfavorable, the costs to wildlife outweigh the benefits. In many cases, climate change is placing additional stress on wildlife. Normally, endocrine systems aid in helping organisms adapt to this stress. The endocrine disrupting chemicals that are increasingly abundant in the natural environment may inhibit normal functioning of endocrine systems and thus alter an organism’s ability to adapt to the stress caused by climate change (Jenssen, 2002). Thus, the compounding effect of climate change and endocrine disrupting chemicals may lead to ecological disaster. It is imperative that environmental leaders across the globe to confront this alarming issue. |
