The conference marks the exciting culmination of Duke University’s “Crossing Borders” project aimed to rethink area studies theory and practice. Oceans Connect fostered the use of trans-oceanic perspectives in research and teaching. To share what we have learned these past five years we are devoting this conference to round-table discussions and keynote addresses by distinguished scholars and writers who have engaged deeply and creatively with rethinking global and area studies.
