Hello! As an outing club member, you gain the ability to check out gear from the outing club's gear locker. With the hope that the outing club can aid people's outdoor ambitions, you are welcome to anything on this list. (If you are not yet a member, check out the join page so that you too can benefit from our gear. You can actually join as you pick up your gear, just bring the money and form to the quartermaster and exchange them for gear.) Now that we are all members, there are two questions that need to be answered: What and How. I will address them in reverse order. How Once you have decided what you want to take and when, the you must email the Quartermaster, Mike Fausone. In your email be sure to include the following:
That is pretty much all there is to it. The quartermaster will get back to you in a timely fashion and inform you of how much of what you requested is available, and you can negotiate the perfect time to do a pick up. Note! An official outing club trip obviously has preference for gear over your personal trips, so if there is a big trip going out the same time you are you might be out of luck. (It doesn't hurt to check though) and beyond that, it is first come, first serve. The further in advance you contact the Quartermaster, the better chance you will get your gear. When you pick up your gear, you will discuss with the Quartermaster the best method for returning the gear. Usually this will merely entail emailing the QM on your return and setting up a time for returning the gear. We have the ability to hang tents and such in the locker, so while it is always nice to get clean and dry gear back to the locker, if you have wet stuff, we can take care of it when you return it. Try and take care of the gear. Right now we don't have any sort of deposit system in place. Not because we can't, but just because it is easier for everyone not to. That being said, if people start to take advantage of this relatively free system, we are going to have to make changes. So be nice. Minor breaks and bruises are to be expected and we can defiantly handle them. So don't sweat it if you accidently break something, just try and take care of the gear. If you are leading an Outing Club trip! It works a little differently. Rather than having each person on the trip email the Quartermaster, it is your responsibility to figure out what everyone needs and then email the QM with a master list. The entire group can then meet at Wilson to get gear at the same time. Also! It is your responsibility to make sure that they all return their gear afterwards. If you could organize a mass return get together, that would be best. What This is the saddest part. I have preserved (for now) the old listing of gear that was on the site. Pretty magnificent no? our current holding are much more meager. Hopefully we can one day reclaim our moment of glory, but for now, here is what we have: Bags:
Packs:
Tents:
Cooking Items:
Etc:
That is it. For now, that is what we have to outfit you with. There is some stuff that we already have that is not on the list because it is in need of repair. If you have suggestions for what would make good group gear in the future, it is quite possible that soon we will have the money to help re-stock, so if there is something that you think is missing, email the Quartermaster let him/her know. Also, in the event that we run out of gear, we have a gear sharing program with Project WILD and are able to get gear from them if we need to. |
